The Surface Transportation Board (STB) last week approved Pacific Sun Railroad's request to discontinue its operations over 21.5 miles of rail line leased from BNSF Railway Co., as well as trackage rights on 45.49 miles of rail line on BNSF in San Diego County, California.
The STB's decision takes effect Dec. 5.
In October 2008, the STB authorized Pacific Sun — which was owned by Watco Cos. LLC — to acquire and operate the leased lines and obtain trackage rights. The short line provided the service on the lines under an agreement with BNSF. That agreement expired Sept. 30.
BNSF took over operation of the lines as of Oct. 1.
