Saskatchewan government doles out grants to 11 short lines

Yesterday, the Saskatchewan government announced it has awarded $700,000 in Shortline Railway Sustainability Program grants to 11 short lines.
Funded by the Saskatchewan Grain Car Corp. and matched 50/50 by recipients, the grants are designed to upgrade provincially regulated short lines. Funds can be used for projects such as track maintenance, tie replacements and bridge repairs.
This year’s grant recipients are:
• Great Western Railway, $205,901;
• Great Sandhills Railway, $78,458;
• Carlton Trail Railway, $76,382;
• Last Mountain Railway, $56,457;
• Stewart Southern Railway, $54,796;
• Red Coat Road and Rail, $47,739;
• Fife Lake Railway, $40,267;
• Southern Rails Co-operative, $35,000;
• Thunder Rail, $35,000;
• Wheatland Rail, $35,000; and
• Torch River Rail, $35,000.
