South Kansas & Oklahoma Railroad to serve new soybean plant
Bartlett Co. last week broke ground on a $375 million soybean crushing plant in southeast Kansas that will be served by Watco's South Kansas & Oklahoma Railroad.
Featuring a loop track system, the plant will be located in Montgomery County, Kansas. Plant operations are expected to begin in early 2024, Bartlett officials said in a press release.
The facility will provide feedstock for producing renewable fuels, food products and animal feeds. About 45 million bushels of soybeans will be processed annually to be made into soybean meal and oil.
"The facility will be an economic driver in southeast Kansas and expand markets for local soybean producers and agribusinesses,” said Bartlett President Bob Knief.
Bartlett is a subsidiary of Savage, which provides agriculture and energy industry infrastructure and supply-chain services.
