The Indiana Rail Road Co. (INRD) recently won a 2012 Family-Friendly Business Award from the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes the 500-mile regional’s successful employee wellness program, INRD officials said in a prepared statement.
Instituted in 2010 and administered in conjunction with Union Hospital Occupational Health Center in Terre Haute, Ind., the program is open to all INRD employees and family members. In the program’s first year, employees and family members collectively lost more than 300 pounds and lowered their blood pressure by 225 points. Several employees also reached major milestones in management of their diseases, such as diabetes, by ceasing the use of medication.
“Many of our employees are terrific examples of how a healthier, more active lifestyle creates greater productivity and contentment at work and home,” said INRD President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Hoback. “A healthier lifestyle helps our employees stay more focused, alert and go home injury-free day after day.”
