The Texas North Western Railway Co. (TXNW) has been awarded a $7.3 million federal grant through the federal Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) program to help fund a project to improve 5.5 miles of track.

Owned by TNW Corp., TXNW will provide matching funds for the project. The work calls for new rail, grade crossings and bridges to allow for the safe movement of 286,000-pound rail cars and larger locomotives to transport unit trains on the line, TXNW officials said in a press release.

The project will bolster the local supply chain and ensure safe, reliable service to a growing number of cattle feedlots, dairies and grain elevators in Moore County, they said.

"The investment will significantly increase our ability to handle trains, improve cycle times and enhance customer service," said TNW CEO Paul Treangen.
