Texas Pacifico Transportation Ltd. recently began providing rail service between San Angelo Junction and Presidio, Texas — the southern portion of the former South Orient line that's been impassible since 1998.

In 2001, The Texas Department of Transportation and Grupo Mexico jointly purchased the line. Parent company of Ferrocarril Mexicano S.A. de C.V. and Texas Pacifico, Grupo Mexico obtained a 40-year lease to operate the line.

Texas Pacifico interchanges with Burlington Northern Santa Fe and the Fort Worth & Western Railroad Co. (FWWR) in San Angelo Junction, with Union Pacific Railroad in Alpine, Texas, and with UP and Kansas City Southern in Fort Worth/Alliance through the FWWR.
