• Harsco Corp. renamed its Engineered Products and Services Group the “Minerals & Rail Technologies, Services and Products Group.” The division includes Harsco Track Technologies, Reed Minerals Technologies, Air-X-Changers, IKG Industries, Patterson-Kelley and Excell Minerals Inc.
• Invensys plc created Invensys Rail Group to bring its four rail brands — Safetran Systems Corp., Westinghouse Rail Systems, Westinghouse Australia, and Dimetronic Signals — under one global identity, according to the company.

On display

• Amsted Rail donated a Motion Control Truck Assembly, at right, to be displayed on the “Transportation Walk,” an exhibition that celebrates “America’s contribution to the movement of people and goods” at the new U.S. Department of Transportation headquarters in Washington, D.C. The truck system was the first to be approved by the Association of American Railroads for 286,000-pound gross load rail cars, according to Amsted.

International orders

• Bombardier Transportation obtained a $1.6 billion contract to provide 321 TALENT 2 trains to Deutsche Bahn AG.
• Bombardier and China’s Dalian Locomotives and Rolling Stock Co. Ltd. obtained a $1.4 billion contract to supply 500 electric freight locomotives to the Chinese Ministry of Railways.
• Alstom Transportation obtained a $408 million contract to design and manufacture 50 electric freight locomotives for the Chinese Ministry of Railways in conjunction with Datong Electric Locomotives, as well as a $55.2 million contract to provide electrification equipment for the railway’s Shi-Tai line.

Expanding their reach

• TUV Rheinland, which offers specialized safety-related services to the transit and freight-rail industries in Europe and Asia under its Guided Transport Systems Division, has opened offices in North America under the name TUV Rheinland of North America.

C&S

• Digital Concepts Inc. will supply a Digital Traffic Control™ 6.2 system for the North County Transit District’s SPRINTER line in San Diego County.

CAR Component contract

• Westcode Inc. obtained a contract to supply air comfort systems for 104 SILVERLINER-V cars being built for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority.

Acquisition action

• Nordco Inc. has acquired Dapco Industries and Dapco Technologies L.L.C.
