Wabtec Corp. subsidiaries WABCO Transit, Vapor Rail and Stone Air recently were awarded contracts totaling $18 million to supply equipment to Kawasaki Rail Car.

WABCO Transit and Vapor Rail will supply brakes, couplers, current collectors, electric door-operating equipment and door panels for 80 R-142 cars Kawasaki is building for MTA New York City Transit. Wabtec also will provide WABCO Transit brakes, Vapor Rail pneumatic door-operating equipment and Stone Air electronically controlled HVAC units for 28 cars Kawasaki is building for Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.

Deliveries are expected to begin in fourth-quarter 2003 and continue through 2004.

WABCO Transit also obtained a $3.5 million contract to supply GB 4 1/2-inch tread brake units for Amtrak’s Amfleet I cars. The brakes currently are used on the Amfleet II vehicles and other car classes. Adding the brakes to Amfleet I will enable the national passenger railroad to standardize maintenance, according to a prepared statement.

WABCO expects to begin delivering the brakes in fourth-quarter 2003.
