The Port Authority Transit Corp. (PATCO) recently awarded an $11.3 million contract to Cubic Transportation Systems Inc. to design and install a multi-modal, contactless smart card-based automated fare collection system to link rail and parking services.

Cubic will deliver an open architecture fare-collection system including operations software, sales terminals, ticket vending machines, fare gates and parking equipment for the Delaware River Port Authority subsidiary’s 13 stations and seven parking facilities. The supplier also will provide customer service features such as credit-debit payment, Internet-based ticketing, autoload and electronic transit benefits delivery. Scheduled to be delivered by 2006’s end, the system will be managed by Cubic’s Nextfare™ central system software suite.

The 14.2-mile PATCO High Speed Line connects Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority service in Philadelphia with New Jersey Transit service in Camden County.
