• Today, Siemens Industry Inc. announced it named Doug Keith president of the Drive Technologies Division. Keith, who will be based in Alpharetta, Ga., joins the company from Siemens Energy, where he served as vice president of the power distribution medium voltage business unit. Keith succeeds Anne Cooney, who has accepted a new position as chief operating officer of Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics in Tarrytown, N.Y.

• L.B. Foster Co. reported net income of $679,000, or 7 cents a share, in the first quarter, down from $1.8 million, or 17 cents a share, for the same period a year ago. Net sales soared 43 percent to $117 million, compared with $82 million in the same 2010 period. The company attributes the sales increase to strong sales by Portec Rail Products Inc., which L.B. Foster acquired last year. First-quarter results were “negatively impacted by expenses related to the acquisition of Portec Rail Products Inc. and to our Grand Island facility,” said President and Chief Executive Officer Stan Hasselbusch in a prepared statement.

• R.J. Corman Railpower recently delivered the first of five locomotives to Modesto & Empire Traction Co. (M&ET). Funded by the San Joaquin Valley Air Quality District, each locomotive will help M&ET achieve a reduction of diesel use and greenhouse gas emissions up to 45 percent, and nitrogen oxides and particulates by 80 percent to 90 percent, R.J. Corman officials said in a prepared statement.

• Parsons Brinckerhoff has named John Trautmann senior supervising architect in the Los Angeles office, where he will oversee architectural design and documentation for the second phase of the Exposition Light-Rail Transit project. Trautmann has extensive background as an architect and urban designer for transportation facilities and other public- and private-sector facilities in the United States and abroad.

• Strategic Rail Finance has appointed Douglass List executive adviser and Thomas Erickson, project consultant. List has expertise in engineering, operations, management and finance, having previously served at CSX Transportation, Union Pacific Railroad and McKinsey & Co. Erickson has 35 years of rail industry experience in sales and business development, project consultation, due diligence study and market research. He has worked for Class I, II and III railroads, including stints with CSX and Conrail.
