• Bombardier Transportation, as a member of the GoldLinQ consortium, has obtained a contract from the government of Queensland, Australia, to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the first stage of the Gold Coast Rapid Transit light-rail system. The contract, which is part of an 18-year public-private partnership, is valued at $1.1 billion. Bombardier’s share of the contract is valued at $265 million.

• RailComm has obtained a contract from the Regional Transportation District of Denver to install its Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) train control system for the district’s West Corridor. DOC is a next-generation computer-aided dispatching system designed to centrally control the CTC signal system and overhead catenary system electrification sub-stations.

• Recycle Technology Industries L.L.C. (RTI) has obtained a contract to supply switch ties to Bay Area Rapid Transit, the firm’s second order from BART, according to the composite tie supplier supplier. RTI has supplied PermaTie mainline and switch ties to Class I, transit and U.S. Army rail systems since 2004.

• Bourque Logistics (BL) has introduced RAILPort™, a web-based report-writing tool designed for creating and distributing custom reports. RAILPort utilizes the BL database so users can create reports from pre-written queries that span loading and shipment status, rail-car profile and compliance, and freight cost and payment templates across all BL software modules.

• Koppers Inc. has appointed Travis Gross sales manager for the northeastern North America territory. He will be responsible for sales of Koppers’ pressure-treated wood and concrete crossties and switch ties, along with a line of rail joints. The territory includes all non-Class I railroads in 12 northeastern U.S. states and Ontario and Quebec, Canada. Gross joined the firm in 2007.

• Northwest Maintenance Railway Club (NWMRC) has named David Francis, western operation/sales manager for Atlantic Track & Turnout Co. in Wheaton, Ill., this year’s Supplier of the Year. Francis was honored for exemplifying “the dedication and perseverance it takes to survive and be successful in the railroad industry,” said James Hansen, vice president of business development-track for RailWorks Corp., in a prepared statement. Francis has been a NWMRC member for 21 years.
