• Wabtec Corp. has acquired a transit aftermarket parts business from GE Transportation. With annual sales of $15 million, the business supplies parts for propulsion and control systems for the passenger-car aftermarket in North America, according to Wabtec. The product lines include AC- and DC-traction motors and related components, and electronic control systems, including contractors and relays. The new lines will become part of Wabtec Global Services.

• Yesterday, Bombardier presented the first Regio 2N car body to SNCF, France’s national railway system, at the Crespin plant in northern France. The event officially launched the start of Regio 2N production. SNCF ordered 80 double-deck electrical multiple units in September 2010. The contract calls for designing and manufacturing up to 860 units. Another 49 trains were ordered in March 2010 under a contract option. “Only 16 months after the project launch, Bombardier teams are in the ‘starting blocks,’ ready to begin producing the first test train, which is due to be tracked at the end of December,” said Pierre Yves Cohen, Bombardier project director, in a prepared statement.

• RailComm will soon convert RailAmerica Inc.’s dispatching system to a web-enabled software-as-a-service (SaaS) delivery system. The pay-as-you-go model eliminates capital equipment procurement constraints, according to RailComm. The new system is designed to enable RailAmerica to dispatch railroads from remote locations, wherever an Internet connection is available. RailAmerica has been using RailComm’s Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) train control system to dispatch multiple subdivisions for its railroads since 2002.

• AdaCore has obtained a contract from Siemens Mobility to provide the GNAT Pro, along with the CodePeer static analysis tool, to develop the next generation of Siemens’ railway control and information system, AdaCore announced in a prepared statement. Siemens’ current version of the system controls train traffic in Switzerland, Austria, Hungary and Malaysia.

• RMI has appointed Paul Pascutti vice president of sales and promoted Kirk Knauff to senior vice president of corporate marketing and services. Since joining RMI in 1987, Pascutti has held positions in application development, customer support, sales and marketing, and research and development. Most recently, he was vice president of international sales with responsibility for leading sales outside of North America. Since joining RMI in 2004, Knauff has held positions in marketing and sales, most recently as vice president of marketing and services. In that role, he oversaw commercial strategy and services deployment.

• Hollysys Automation Technologies Ltd. has obtained a $3 million contract to supply its high-speed rail signaling system to Panjin-Yingkou’s high-speed rail line, which connects northeast China’s two high-speed rail arteries. The contract calls for Hollysys to delivery and install a train control center, line-side electronic unit and other auxiliary equipment on the system by June 2012, according to Hollysys.
