• Pacer International Inc. has expanded its Mexico Direct service between Chihuahua, Mexico, and key markets in the United States and Canada, according to a company press release. The service, which began operations on Aug. 29, will operate five days a week to and from Chihuahua using Ferrocarril Mexicano S.A. de C.V. and Union Pacific Railroad networks. Pacer will provide equipment from a fleet of more than 18,500 high-cube intermodal containers and a newly established chassis pool at the Ferromex rail ramp in Chihuahua.

• Effective immediately, STV Group Inc. has appointed Dominick Servedio executive chairman and Milo Riverso, president and chief executive officer, company officials said in a prepared statement. As executive chairman, Servedio will remain as board chairman and focus on long-term strategic business opportunities, expanding STV markets and finding opportunities to build shareholder value. He has served as chairman and CEO for the past decade. Riverso will be responsible for STV’s daily operations and position the company to achieve short- and long-term goals. His emphasis will be on business operations, financial performance, business development, technology and human capital. He has served as president and chief operating officer for the past two years.

• Bombardier Transportation has unveiled the first of 32 Electro-Motive Diesel Inc. model SD70Ace diesel-electric locomotives manufactured for Progress Rail Services Corp. Production began in April, following the contracting signing in November 2010.

• Siemens will equip 9,0000 of the total 11,0000 automatic train control elements in the route network of the Swiss Federal Railways with the European Train Control System type Trainguard 100. The order is worth about $170.6 million, according to a Siemens press release. The contract will cover the conversion of the existing signaling system for 25 years, and will be delivered in eight phases between 2012 and 2017.

• Axion International Holdings Inc. has announced the launch of the EcoTrax™ name for its composite ties, which have gone through extensive proof-of-concept testing over the past 12 years and are now being sold in domestic and international markets, according to an Axion press release. The ties are designed using recycled plastic and plastic composites. “The launch of the EcoTrax brand is a huge milestone for Axion as we strive to become the market leader in the composite rail tie business,” said Axion President and Chief Executive Officer Steve Silverman in a prepared statement.

• R.J. Corman Railroad Group has obtained a contract from Sierra Northern Railway (SERA) for a GenSet locomotive kit. The contract is partially funded by the Environmental Protection Agency Targeted Air Shed Grant program, according to an R.J. Corman press release. The locomotive kit will be provided to SERA in modular subsystems to be assembled with Railpower supervision and SERA-provided labor and tooling. Delivery is slated for the fourth quarter.
