• Faiveley Transport has agreed to acquire a controlling interest in Graham‐White, which has developed compressed air drying technology and provides brake components for the locomotive and transit-rail markets. Graham-White employs 300 people and operates six U.S. plants, with a central manufacturing site in Salem, Va., according to a Faiveley press release. Faiveley Transport and Graham-White have worked jointly for several years, with Faiveley Transport the primary licensee for Graham-White's air dryers in India. The transaction will enhance Faiveley Transport’s position in the U.S. locomotive market, company officials said.

• L.B. Foster Co. has begun delivering $3.4 million worth of rail and trackwork products to rail contractor Wintrow Construction of Barberton, Ohio, for the construction of 8.5 miles of track at the new Vallourec & Mannesmann Tubes Star Steel pipe mill in Youngstown, Ohio. The new 115-pound continuous-welded rail (CWR) is produced by Steel Dynamics Inc., which welded 240-foot rail sections into 1,600-foot strings and loaded them onto a special L.B. Foster work train for delivery to the Ohio project site. L.B. Foster's team of rail professionals is managing the logistics required to provide just-in-time delivery of the rail and trackwork materials to the jobsite, according to a press release.

• Alstom has obtained a framework contract from Belgian rail operator Infrabel to continue deployment of the European railway traffic management system in Belgium. The contract covers equipping and configuring 4,000 signals with beacons, together with a 15-year maintenance agreement, according to an Alstom press release. Under the framework, Infrabel has awarded Alstom a $37.9 million order for equipment, which Infrabel will install. The contract value ultimately could total $60.9 million. Alstom also recently obtained a $64 million contract from rolling stock leasing company Porterbrook in the United Kingdom to supply 36 five-car suburban trains to run on South West Trains routes.

• Sapa Group has announced a $34 million capital investment in a 14-inch indirect press for rod and bar production at its plant in Cressona, Penn., according to a company press release. The investment will result in a major upgrade of Sapa North America’s industrial extrusion capabilities. The addition of a new indirect press will increase production speed per unit by up to 50 percent and recover more scrap material than was previously possible at the Cressona plant, Sapa officials said.

• Oracle has obtained a contract with the North County Transit District (NCTD) in San Diego, Calif., to provide environmental sustainability reporting and analysis. To meet requirements of the American Public Transportation Association’s sustainability standards, NCTD needs a dedicated system that can automate and streamline the collection and analysis of sustainability metrics including greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption. The agency is “committed to a long-term sustainability plan that will both decrease our environmental impact and reduce our operating expenses,” said NCTD Chief Technology and Sustainability Officer Angela Miller in a prepared statement.

• Parsons Brinckerhoff has named Guy Templeton president and chief operating officer of the firm’s Asia, Australia-Pacific, Southern Africa operating company. Templeton succeeds Chuck Kohler, who was appointed to the position in July 2011 on an interim basis and who recently was appointed group director of operational delivery for Balfour Beatty, according to a press release. In his new role, Templeton will oversee transportation, power, mining, water, wastewater and community development projects throughout Asia, the Australia-Pacific region and southern Africa. He previously served as chief executive officer of Minter Ellison Lawyers.
