At InnoTrans 2012 in Berlin, Germany, which is being held this week, GE Transportation unveiled its PowerHaul Series PH37Acai Locomotive. In a press release, GE described the locomotive as Europe's newest cross-border locomotive and the company's most technologically advanced, fuel-efficient and low-emissions diesel-electric locomotive to date. The unit meets the latest TSI standards and the interoperability requirements for Europe and other regions that adopt such standards, GE officials said. Also at InnoTrans, GE and partner TULOMSAS introduced the first PowerHaul locomotive to be manufactured in Turkey. In addition, GE is showcasing Tempo Railway Solutions, its new rail signaling solutions portfolio designed for transit and mainline operations.

Also at InnoTrans: Companies like Invensys Rail are at the heart of the United Kingdom's rapidly growing rail sector, said Parliamentary Undersecretary of State for Transport Norman Baker while touring Invensys Rail's booth on Tuesday. Baker witnessed a demonstration of the newly completed Victoria Lane Control Centre, which played a critical role in transporting thousands of spectators and athletes to the London 2012 Games, Invensys officials said in a prepared statement. "The coalition government is very supportive of manufacturing and particularly supportive of the rail sector," Baker said.

William Crosbie has been named president and chief executive officer of SYSTRA's U.S. subsidiary. He will lead the expansion and strategic development of SYSTRA in the United States, according to a company press release. Crosbie is a professional engineer with more than 25 years of experience in the rail industry. Prior to joining the company, he was vice president of railroad programs and deputy sector manager at Parsons. He also previously served as chief operating officer at Amtrak, where he directed transportation, engineering, mechanical, police and security, environmental, health and safety functions.

Amsted RPS has named Rigi Chackanad sales manager for freight railroads. Chackanad will be responsible for sales and marketing for freight customers in western North America. Most recently, she was a product engineer for Vossloh Fastening Systems. Chackanad previously was a civil engineer with Sargent and Lundy Engineering and Consulting.

RailComm has been ranked on Inc. magazine's list of the fastest-growing private U.S. companies. RailComm was recognized based on its large revenue growth from 2008 to 2011. The company has made the Inc. 5000 list for six years in a row, RailComm officials said in a prepared statement. Companies are ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2008 to 2011.

Colo Railroad Builders has appointed Michael Payne director of health and safety, and Dave Leehy, corporate controller. Previously, Leehy served as controller for J.F. Electric and Railworks. He has more than 25 years of experience in the rail and construction industries. Payne, who has more than 20 years of railroad experience and safety leadership, will help build upon the company's "zero injury philosophy" by developing it into an industry leader in safety practices, Colo L.L.C. Chief Executive Officer Paul Treangen said in a prepared statement. Most recently, Payne served as transportation director at Genesee & Wyoming Inc.'s Rail Link.
