Rail supplier updates from Siemens, Gannett Fleming, RSI/REMSA and Cando (May 16)

Siemens Rail Automation has closed its acquisition of Invensys Rail, which will be integrated into the Mobility and Logistics Division. Former Invensys Rail President and Chief Executive Officer John Paljug will become head of Siemens U.S. Rail Automation business. More than 500 Invensys employees will join Siemens Rail Automation as well, including 300 in Louisville, Ky., and 210 in Marion, Ky., according to a Siemens press release. Siemens also has signed agreements to acquire the railway yard retarder business from SONA and has completed the acquisition of SkyEye Transportation Systems.

Gannett Fleming recently marked the opening of first stage of the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport's PHX Sky Train™, a 1.92-mile segment that links the area's 44th street Metro light-rail station with the airport's economy parking and the 88-gate Terminal 4.  Gannett Fleming served as the fixed facilities design engineer for the project.

The Railway Supply Institute (RSI) and Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association (REMSA) announced details of the USA Pavilion they will co-host at the Business on Rails trade show, Nov. 5-7, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Nearly half of the available exhibit booths have been reserved at the pavilion, which will be located in the center of the exhibit hall, according to a REMSA/RSI press release. The cost to exhibit is $15,000 for members and $25,000 for nonmembers.

Cando has signed a long-term contract to provide rail-car loading and switching services to Tundra Energy Marketing Ltd.'s new crude petroleum terminal near Cromer, Manitoba. The new facility has been designed to handle 30,000 barrels of crude per day, with plans to grow to 60,000 barrels per day. The terminal will have the potential to handle crude oil unit trains of more than 100 cars, which will generate greater efficiencies and market reach for Canadian crude oil.
