Rail supplier news from GE, CH2M Hill, Sweco, TransWorks, Raven Logistics, Parsons Brinckerhoff and Dewberry (July 8)

GE named Mark Hutchinson integration leader for the proposed acquisition of Alstom's power and grid businesses. For the past three years, he served as president and chief executive officer of GE Greater China. For his new post, Hutchinson will relocate to Paris.

CH2M Hill was awarded a contract from PKP PLK to conduct the feasibility study and design for the electrification of a 30-kilometer rail line from Wegliniec to Gorlitz, Poland. CH2M Hill’s role includes analysis of socio-economic factors, traffic, rail infrastructure, rolling stock and network power systems, as well as environmental impact assessments. The firm's transportation team also will provide construction design and cost estimates for the operation and maintenance of power lines, substations and overhead line equipment. The project, which has an estimated contract value of $537.1 million, is scheduled for completion at the end of November 2015.

Sweco received a $14.8 million contract to modernize the rail line between Stockholm’s Central and Southern stations. The project includes renovating bridges and other structures, and replacing rail infrastructure. The contract is "expected to run until 2021," according to a Sweco statement.

TransWorks and Raven Logistics formed a strategic alliance aimed at providing customers with a "one-stop shop for managing transportation by either rail or truck," the companies announced last week. TransWorks develops and manages computer systems for transporting large shipments of truckload freight; Raven Logistics provides rail freight rating, tracking, demurrage, and dispatching services.

Parsons Brinckerhoff named Patrick Anderson the transit and rail manager for Texas. In his new position, Anderson will expand and manage the firm’s transit and rail work statewide. Prior to joining the company, Anderson was the national director of transportation programs of an international engineering firm. Parsons Brinckerhoff also named Joseph Miller a senior systems supervising engineering manager in the company's Dallas office. Miller, who worked for Parsons Brinckerhoff from 2001 to 2004, will manage systems design and issues resolution for commuter and light-rail projects.

Dewberry appointed Jack Kanarek as a senior project manager in the company's Bloomfield, N.J., office. Kanarek, who previously served as senior director of project development for New Jersey Transit, has more than 40 years of public transportation industry experience, including work on rail station improvements, modernization projects and ADA accessibility implementations.
