Rock Hill Capital Group has completed a majority recapitalization of Rail Service & Logistics L.L.C. (RSL), a railroad services provider that removes and disposes wood ties. In conjunction with the recapitalization of RSL, the company acquired the assets of Rail Tie Solutions from Savage Transportation Management Inc., an affiliate of Savage Companies. The acquisition expands RSL's capabilities and geographic coverage to include four grinding facilities and operations from the Midwest through the western United States, according to a company press release.

AXION International Holdings Inc. has received a purchase order for ECOTRAX® rail ties to be shipped and installed for Russia's transit system. The order is the company's fourth from Russia, signifying strong international demand, according to a company press release.

The Family Business Center at Loyola University Chicago's Quinlan School of Business has named Sasser Family Holdings the Illinois Family Business of the Year (in the large category), according to the company. The program's winners will be honored at a Nov. 12 gala at the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago. Winners are selected based on positive family-business linkage, multigenerational family business involvement, contributions to industry and community, and innovative business practices and strategies. Sasser Family Holdings has evolved from a small rail service business to a global transportation asset services and management company comprised of six subsidiaries, all tied under one family name and set of core values.
