Yesterday, Railinc announced it's increasing annual spending on information technology (IT) infrastructure and staffing, and reached a long-term agreement with Affiliated Computer Services Inc. to outsource certain business processes and technology functions.

Railinc recently purchased a new mainframe, computer mid-range systems and other equipment to ensure seamless IT service to more than 460 railroads and their North American customers. The company also obtained new software and monitoring tools to provide real-time statistics to IT and customer support personnel.

"Year after year, Railinc has reinvested dominant portions of our revenue back into our IT infrastructure to ensure we have the best available blend of hardware, software and people resources to support our customers," said Railinc Vice President of Information Technology Allen West in a prepared statement.

Railinc provides information technology services to North American railroads, shippers, equipment owners and suppliers, and manages e-commerce Web site Steelroads.com.
