Ballard Power Systems has signed a $9 million agreement to develop a zero-emission fuel cell engine to power Siemens' Mireo light-rail train. Terms call for Ballard to develop a 200-kilowatt fuel cell engine to power Mireo, which is a modular commuter train platform designed for speeds up to 100 mph. Initial deployments of the fuel cell-powered Mireo train are planned for 2021, Ballard officials said in a press release. The Ballard agreement marks a "decisive step towards replacing diesel-powered rail vehicles with emissions-free vehicles in the long-term interests of sustainable and climate-friendly mobility," added Sabrina Soussan, chief executive officer of Siemens' mobility division.ALLU USA Inc. has chosen Sonoran Process Equipment Co. (SPEC) to serve as the southwestern U.S. distributor of its ALLU Transformer™ line of material processing attachments. SPEC will provide sales and rental of ALLU's screener crusher buckets and soil stabilizing equipment, as well as aftermarket service and spare parts for customers in Nevada and Utah.Teleste Corp. has agreed to provide on-board solutions to Spanish rolling stock manufacturer CAF. The equipment will be deployed on 10 metro units for Mexico City and on 18 units for Quito, Ecuador. The agreement covers options for 30 additional trains, Teleste officials said in a press release. Teleste will deploy passenger information systems, public address and intercommunication systems, and TFT LCD displays from its Mitron line of products. The systems are aimed at supporting CAF in providing safe travel for passengers in the two cities.WAGO has named John Bukowski distribution channel manager of North America. For more than 30 years, he has worked in technical sales roles at companies such as Eaton, Pepperl and Fuchs Inc. and Schneider Electric. WAGO also appointed Tyson Horne as regional sales manager for Utah and parts of Idaho, Wyoming and Montana. Horne has worked in sales for ProMold, Crum Electric and Walter Surface Technologies, according to a WAGO press release.
