Rail Supplier News from Trainyard Tech, FirstGroup, STV, Cubic and REMSA (March 27)

Trainyard Tech LLC obtained a purchase order from Norfolk Southern Railway to update its hump yard process control system at Lamberts Point coal dumping facility in Norfolk, Virginia. The upgrade includes new computers and process control systems software. Trainyard will add automatic equipment identifier radio frequency readers to monitor cars during the coal dumping process and a rail yard reporting tool that will help simplify troubleshooting.

FirstGroup ordered five new AT300 125 mph intercity electric trains from Hitachi Rail for an open access, high-speed train service linking London and Edinburgh, Scotland, that will begin in the fall of 2021, FirstGroup announced in a press release. The 100 million euro deal also includes ongoing maintenance. 

STV has promoted John Ponzio to senior vice president of the firm’s national systems practice. Ponzio has 20 years of transit industry experience. He began his career at STV as a junior engineer. Since then, he has grown the team from four to 130 employees and expanded the practice to include services for clients in rail and transit operations, intelligent transportation systems and safety, according to a STV press release.

Cubic Corp.’s Cubic Transportation Systems business division implemented an account-based pay-as-you-go ticketing system for ScotRail in Scotland. The system enables customers to have single account funding across multiple modes of public and private transportation, Cubic officials said in a press release. 

The Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association (REMSA) is calling for applications to its 2019 scholarship program through May 31. The scholarships are open to full- and part-time employees of REMSA member companies and immediate family members of REMSA members enrolled in college. In a separate announcement, Madeleine Stern as been named REMSA membership and marketing manager. Stern will oversee membership retention and communications for the association, according to an association press release. Before joining REMSA, Stern managed membership and brand marketing for an independent insurance agent association.
