ENSCO Inc.’s rail division opened a new office in downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado. The office will support the firm's railway research, condition assessment, asset management and cybersecurity business areas, ENSCO officials said in a press release.
The Andersons Inc. named Vanessa Knapton director of repair sales for the company’s rail group. Knapton has over 25 years of operations, sales and logistics experience in the rail industry. Previously, she was a conductor, brakeman and trainmaster at BNSF Railway Co., and a sales leader at a rail-car repair company, The Andersons officials said in a press release.
STV hired Alexander Houseal as vice president and senior engineering operations manager of the firm’s transportation and infrastructure division’s Pennsylvania operation. Houseal has more than 33 years of planning, environmental, design and management experience on major transportation projects in the U.S. Northeast, STV officials said in a press release. Previously, Houseal served as regional VP for a national engineering and architectural firm, and as a deputy transportation business unit leader for a multinational engineering firm.
The 4SECURail consortium has been selected to deliver a co-designed collaborative process and tools for the coordination of cybersecurity response across European railways. The partners will develop a computer security incident response team, designed to coordinate the cybersecurity response actions of separate railway security teams in Europe. The consortium also will develop a formal methods demonstrator to support better interoperability of signaling systems for railway security, safety and efficiency. 4SECURail is made up of Ardanuy Ingenieria, Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, FIT Consulting, Hit Rail, SIRTI, Tree Technology and International Union of Railways. This project has received funding from the Shift2Rail Joint Undertaking under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program.
The Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association (REMSA) partnered with InnoTrans to sponsor two students to attend the InnoTrans 2020 conference in Berlin, Germany, Sept. 22-25. The students will participate in InnoTrans’s career award designed to spark interest and promote career opportunities in the rail industry. The deadline to apply is March 6.
