Alstom last week appointed Jerome Wallut chief commercial officer. He will oversee Alstom’s global commercial activities, including commercial strategy, business development and public affairs. In his new role, Wallut is a member of Alstom’s leadership team. Previously, he was president of Alstom Americas.

STV Group Inc. has acquired CP&Y Inc., an employee-owned engineering, architectural and field services consulting firm with a staff of over 375 professionals in Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Florida and Virginia. The transaction formally closed on Sept. 30. CP&Y will now be known as CP&Y, an STV company. “This acquisition provides immediate scale in one of the fastest growing markets for infrastructure, enabling us to more profoundly serve our clients,” said Greg Kelly, STV president and chief executive officer.

Geopier Foundation Co. last week marked its 25th anniversary with a new corporate brand strategy and website.  In 1989, Geopier founder Nathaniel Fox introduced Rammed Aggregate Pier® technologies at a project site in South Carolina and Geopier Foundation Co. was founded in 1996. Geopier’s innovations over the past 25 years has produced 10 proprietary systems, 200 patents, 100 published technical papers and 600 team members worldwide that contributed to approximately 12,000 completed jobs, company officials said in a press release.

The League of Railway Women (LRW) announced today the winners of its two annual scholarships. Oana Cantacioiu, specialist of car maintenance planning at Canadian Pacific, was awarded the $3,000  Connie Sumara Memorial Scholarship. Cantacioiu is pursing an MBA at the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. The Sumara scholarship honors the memory of former LRW President Connie Sumara, an LRW founder and longest-serving president, and seeks to encourage women who are pursuing graduate or undergraduate degrees to further their careers within the rail industry. Kamillah Ealom, system service worker at Bay Area Rapid Transit, was awarded the $1,000 Future of Railroading Scholarship. Ealom is completing a masters of transportation management at Mineta Transportation Institute. This scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a graduate or undergraduate degree with an interest in supporting the rail industry.
