Wabtec Corp. has inaugurated a global engineering lab at Bengaluru, India, to enable rail component design and performance. Wabtec’s largest lab in India, the facility has a 30,000-square-foot test lab and 12,000 square feet for an operations center and office space. The facility houses more than 30 complex mechanical, electrical and propulsion related custom built test rigs. The objective of the facility is to characterize the performance, understand the failures, predict the service life of components, and validate design improvements. Wabtec is planning to relocate and add test rigs to the new facility over the next three months.

The Greenbrier Cos. Inc. announced the acquisition of more than 3,600 rail cars, a portion of which will be held in GBX Leasing (GBXL), a recently formed special purpose subsidiary that is approximately 95% owned by Greenbrier. As of Sept. 30, GBXL’s fleet totals nearly 4,000 units with a fair market value of $350 million. The fleet was assembled through a combination of lease originations on Greenbrier-built rail cars and the portfolio acquisition.

Teleste Corp. will provide its on-board solution to Stadler for the Tyne and Wear Metro transport authority Nexus in Newcastle upon Tyne in northeast England. The deployment will consist of systems for 46 new trains, which Stadler will deliver to Nexus starting in 2022. Commercial services are slated to begin in 2023.

VLS Recovery Services LLC this week announced that Doug Dugan has been named vice president of Southeast operations for the waste services division. Dugan has more than 20 years of operational leadership, most recently with Covanta Environmental Solutions, where he oversaw the operations of multiple facilities in the Carolinas.
