WSP USA was lead environmental and engineering consultant for the San Diego Mid-Coast Trolley Blue Line Extension, which is slated to open officially on Nov. 21. The project involved an 11-mile light-rail extension from the University of California-San Diego campus to downtown San Diego. As the designer of record, WSP was charged with advancing the $2.1 billion project from environmental clearance and conceptual engineering through construction. WSP also provided grant procurement services that led to a $1 billion Federal Transit Administration Full Funding Grant Agreement in 2016, according to a WPS press release.

The city of Edmonton, Alberta, has selected Hyundai Rotem Co. as its preferred supplier of 40 light-rail vehicles (LRVs) for the nearly nine-mile Valley Line West light-rail transit project. Hyundai Rotem and the city will enter into final discussions, with the contract expected to be finalized by Dec. 2. The LRVs will be delivered beginning in 2025. The city launched its procurement for LRVs in November 2020 and released its shortlist in March this year.

Cedar AI and Rio Grande Pacific Technology, the technology division of Rio Grande Pacific Corp., are working together to deliver a technology suite aimed at improving service and visibility for operators and shippers at industrial switching locations. Leveraging Cedar AI's ARMS (Automated Rail Management System) technology, Rio Grande Pacific Technology and Cedar AI will provide a tailored transportation management solution to industrial switching locations. New functionality introduced to shippers will include a geographical projection of traffic at a shipper's facility, allowing customers to visualize their rail cars and associated performance metrics in real-time without the need to rely on specific knowledge of railroad industry systems.

RR Mergers & Acquisitions today announced the sale of its client, Platinum Track Services, to GCF Railway Works. Platinum Track is a Canada-based railroad construction and maintenance services company, specializing in railroad mainline tie replacement and rail relay programs. With its headquarters in Rome, GCF operates in the railway infrastructures, electrification and signaling maintenance sector. Through Platinum Track, GCF is expanding its services to Canada and throughout North America, according to an RR Mergers press release.
