Rail supplier news from Thales, Savage, Tensar and Commercial Metals (Dec. 7)


Thales and ProRail, which is responsible for the Dutch railway network, have signed a contract for a new digital ERTMS.

Thales and ProRail, which is responsible for the maintenance, expansion and safety of the Dutch railway network,  have signed an axle counter contract for a European rail traffic management system (ERTMS). The signaling system is accompanied by a number of extensive tenders; one of them is the tender for the generic axle counter system (GACS) for ERTMS. Thales will develop and may supply axle counting systems for new ERTMS for up to eight years. More than 373 miles of track will be equipped. The last delivery is expected in 2032, followed by 25 years of maintenance. The contract is valued at up to €100 million, or $112.5 million USD.

Savage announced that Martha Barcena Coqui, Mexico's former ambassador to the United States, has joined the company's board. Barcena served as ambassador from December 2018 to February 2021.

Tensar Corp., a provider of geogrid engineered solutions for civil construction, and a portfolio company of Castle Harlan Inc.’s fund Castle Harlan Partners V, LP, announced today it has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by Commercial Metals Co. as part of CMC’s strategy to expand its leadership in construction solutions. CMC is a world leader in the manufacture of steel products, including rebar used in infrastructure construction reinforcement.
