Rail supplier news from Thales, Alstom, Fugro and STV (May 20)

ProRail has awarded Thales implementation of its European rail traffic management system's central safety system into the Dutch railway network. In the Netherlands, ProRail’s work covers 4,350 miles of track, building and managing train stations and regulating train traffic. The 37-year contract is valued at 420 million euros with a significant part dedicated to innovation.

Alstom, a member of the TMT Consortium, and its partners Electra Ltd. and Dan Transportation have been awarded a contract to design, build, maintain and finance the Tel Aviv Metropolitan LRT Green Line by Metropolitan Mass Transit System. The project is valued at 2.6 billion euros; Alstom’s share is valued at 858 million euros. Alstom’s responsibility includes the design, engineering, supply, integration, testing and commissioning of the railway system. Electra will manage the design and construction of the civil works. System maintenance will be performed by a joint venture composed of Dan Transportation, Electra and Alstom.

Fugro recently completed a year-long geotechnical investigation for HNTB to support the safe design of a new light-rail transit tunnel in downtown Austin, Texas. The tunnel is a key part of HNTB’s work for the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Austin Transit Partnership and the city of Austin on the larger Blue Line Corridor project, which aims to ease traffic congestion and support sustainable population and economic growth in the city.

STV Inc. has hired Dan Corey as vice president and national director of mobility technologies. Based in Philadelphia, Corey is leading a national practice of intelligent transportation systems, electric vehicle, connected and automated vehicles and data professionals. Most recently, Corey was the director of strategic solutions for the global transportation team of a large transportation consulting engineering firm.
