HDR Inc. promoted Kevin Keller to intermodal transportation planning practice leader. Keller will oversee planning, directing and monitoring of large intermodal transportation projects. He will also assist clients with long-term vision, strategic and tactical planning, policy, funding and finances, supply-chain logistics and project development. Keller has more than 30 years of experience working with government agencies, freight railroads, port authorities and other clients across North and Central America.
Koppers released its 2021 Corporate Sustainability Report, which highlighted a greenhouse-gas emissions reduction of 48.2% since a baseline year of 2007, moving closer to the company’s goal of 50% reduction by 2030. The report also noted a strong safety performance, including achieving the company’s lowest 12-month rate of serious safety incidents, with 16 of 43 facilities working accident-free for the prior year. Koppers announced it has patents pending related to advanced carbon products to serve electronic vehicles and lithium-ion battery markets.
Four supplier companies are competing as finalists in Transit Tech Lab's (TTL) Signaling Challenge, hosted by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) in New York City, which is testing technology to modernize its signal system. The finalists are 4AI Systems, Alstom, Luminar and Ouster, in partnership with Lux Modus. TTL is a part of the Transit Innovation Partnership, a public-private initiative created by the MTA and Partnership for New York City. The companies’ tech innovations range from AI detection to train communication, LiDAR and 3D imaging.
Radiant Logistics Inc. rebranded its U.S. brokerage platform Radiant Clipper to Radiant Road & Rail Services. The company provides client-centric expertise in temperature-controlled and dry intermodal, OTR and LTL trucking, asset and brokered drayage, transloading and other value-added services. Radiant Logistics is a third-party logistics and multimodal transportation services company working throughout North America and other global markets.
Railmark Holdings Inc. will locate its new corporate office in Union Station in Henderson, Kentucky. Now headquartered in Wixom, Michigan, the company plans to combine its two existing properties into one campus in Henderson that will hold the corporate office, a Railmark Rail Service Center and a special community venue to be sponsored by Railmark Foundation. Union Station opened to the public in 1902 and has since served as a key waypoint for northwestern Kentucky, though the final passenger train departed the station in 1971. The building was vacant until Railmark purchased it in December 2021.
Strato Inc. recently added Rocky Loessin to its executive management team to serve as vice president of sales and marketing. Loessin has experience in rail, including roles at Kansas City Southern and Trinity Industries Inc., most recently as VP of sales at TrinityRail. He will direct Strato's sales, marketing and customer service teams, and develop programs to enhance the customer experience and expand into international markets.
STV Inc. has hired three new leaders in Texas: Eric Greenman as vice president, senior client relations leader, in Fort Worth; Eric Ploch as VP, director of program management, in Austin; and Charles Smoak Jr. as VP, Houston market municipal leader. The three men bring combined decades of experience to their roles and their "collective strength adds to the depth of our expertise,” said J.J. Roohms, president of CP&Y Inc., a subsidiary of STV.
Volvo Penta has provided the diesel engine for the Rail King RK460, the world’s largest steel mobile rail-car mover weighing in at over 45 tons. The D8 Tier 4 Final engine is a six-cylinder inline turbocharged diesel engine rated at 320 horsepower, and it uses the company’s fully integrated SCR-based exhaust after-treatment system that eliminates the need for a diesel particulate filter. The Rail King is produced by Stewart & Stevenson, a Houston-based manufacturer and distributor of products for the oil and gas, marine, construction, power, transportation, mining and agricultural industries.
