Knorr-Bremse’s board last month voted unanimously to appoint Marc Llistosella CEO for a three-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2023. He most recently was active in investor and founder roles at several start-ups, including Vaionic, which develops electric drive systems, and Einride, which develops electric and self-driving commercial vehicles. Llistosella formerly was CEO of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corp., head of Daimler Trucks Asia and CEO of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles subsidiary.
Global technical services provider Ricardo recently opened an office in Folsom, California — its first in North America dedicated to the rail sector. The office is led by Kirk Klug, who recently was appointed president-North America of Ricardo Rail. Ricardo is already established in North America’s automotive and aerospace sectors, but now is increasing access for its rail business, company officials said in a press release. “[This] office demonstrates our confidence in the vitality of North America’s rail and transit market,” said Kirk. “It provides a permanent base for our teams as we look to build on a business that is already supporting clients in California … Toronto and Ottawa.”
Industrial logistics infrastructure and supply-chain services provider Savage recently was named a 2022 Top Company for Women to Work For in Transportation by the Women in Trucking Association’s Redefining the Road magazine. The companies recognized on the list exhibit corporate cultures that foster gender diversity, competitive compensation and benefits, flexible hours and work requirements, and professional development and career advancement opportunities for women. At Savage, women represent a growing segment of its 4,500 employees and serve as truck drivers, equipment operators, rail engineers, financial analysts, milling superintendents, operations managers, executives and board members, company officials said in a press release. Savage also announced it was recognized as a 2023 Gold Military Friendly® Employer. This is the fifth-straight year the company has earned the designation for its commitment to recruiting, retaining and advancing veterans.
This week, Wabtec Corp. and the Argonne and Oak Ridge National Labs announced a partnership to develop technology designed to burn hydrogen in locomotive engines. The partnership involves the installation of Wabtec’s single-cylinder dual-fuel locomotive engine at the National Transportation Research Center, a Department of Energy Office of Science user facility located at the Oak Ridge National Lab. The move is one of several approaches Wabtec is taking to develop hydrogen technology for zero-emission locomotives. One approach involves using fuel cells as an alternative power source for locomotives, while a parallel approach involves enhancing Wabtec’s existing internal-combustion locomotive engines to burn hydrogen.
The California High-Speed Rail Authority has chosen an AECOM-led joint venture to provide program management support services for the state’s high-speed rail (HSR) program. The joint venture will leverage AECOM’s global HSR and program management expertise to realize the timely delivery of the program while supporting the authority’s vision of generating statewide mobility, environmental, social and economic benefits, AECOM officials said in a press release. California’s HSR system will be the first in the nation to be an electrified rail line offering frequent train service exceeding 200 mph.
ATM has awarded a contract to Hitachi Rail to provide 46 new metro trains for the Milan metro in Italy. The pact calls for Hitachi Rail to deliver the first 21 trains — which will be used on the M1 line — by spring 2024. The trains will feature a fully accessible design with an uninterrupted view from front to end and a surveillance system to improve onboard security. The train's lower noise levels will help provide a more comfortable passenger experience, Hitachi rail officials said in a press release.
RailPros has hired Lenora Isaac as director of rail and transit projects. She will be based in the company’s Newark, New Jersey office. Isaac will oversee development and implementation of new rail/transit projects in the New York/New Jersey/Pennsylvania metropolitan region. She recently retired from New Jersey Transit after a 35-year career there, which included stints in fleet and support equipment, capital planning and programs, rail system development and the agency’s resilience program.
