Hitachi Rail has appointed CEO Andrew Barr as the company’s new vice president and executive officer in charge of regional strategies. Barr will also serve as president of Hitachi's European business. Giuseppe Marino will succeed Barr as group CEO of Hitachi Rail. Marino most recently was the CEO and general manager of Ansaldo Energia Group. Both appointments are effective April 1.

JA Mitsui Leasing Ltd. (JAML) is acquiring Mitsui Rail Capital (MRC), a joint venture between JAML and Mitsui & Co. Ltd. MRC will become a consolidated subsidiary of JAML. The transaction is expected to close by March 31. Financial terms were not disclosed. Since 1996, MRC built a portfolio of freight rail cars being leased across North America’s industrial sectors, including energy, food, manufacturing and construction. JAML became a joint venture partner in 2015.

Talgo has signed an agreement with Le Train, a private high-speed train operator in France, to develop a new fleet of high-speed trains based on Talgo’s Avril model. The Avril model focuses on reliability, high-quality equipment, energy efficiency and modern design, Talgo officials said in a press release. Construction of the first 10 trains will begin in the first half of this year at Talgo’s Rivabellosa, Spain, manufacturing plant. The first trains are slated for delivery in early 2025. The agreement also calls for a joint research and development unit to be created in New Aquitaine.

STV Inc. marked the completion of Grand Central Madison in New York City, the new $11.2 billion passenger-rail terminal that connects the MTA Long Island Rail Road to Manhattan. STV's role in the project involved preparing the initial feasibility study and major investment study planning. The firm also served on the general engineering consultant joint venture team that provided tunnel, structures, systems, terminal design and environmental engineering services. The new station has eight tracks and four platforms on two new levels below the existing Grand Central Terminal.
