New York Air Brake last week held an event for Engineers Week 2023 that focused on recruiting middle school students to study engineering. The event featured an open house with company officials, a tour of the manufacturing floor and engineering labs at NYAB's Watertown, New York, headquarters and an interactive design activity. The company has hosted open houses and student education programs during Engineers Week for more than a decade.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority awarded Crosstown Partners, a consortium between Thales and TC Electric, a contract to supply a modern SelTrac communications-based train control system on the transit agency's Crosstown subway line between Brooklyn and Queens, New York. Thales will supply the technology, while TC Electric will serve as the construction contractor to upgrade stations, wayside and track along the 10-mile route that includes 21 stations. Thales also will provide maintenance for 25 years under the contract.
