Intermodal marketing company Hub Group Inc. is expanding its automotive industry capabilities to include intermodal services involving all original equipment manufacturing facilities. Through longstanding relationships with automotive manufacturers and Union Pacific Railroad, its focus on transporting parts inbound for manufacturing will bolster the company’s automotive offering and add service options in the marketplace, Hub officials said in a press release. Hub will utilize its fleet of nearly 50,000 GPS-enabled intermodal 53-foot containers, while leveraging northbound and southbound services, including the Falcon Premium and Eagle Premium services through UP. The Class I's new Falcon Premium service provides the fastest service from the United States and Mexico border to Chicago and Detroit, and the most direct route entirely by rail between Canada and Mexico, Hub officials said.

The Alstom-led consortium Groupe PMM participated in the inauguration of the first segment of the Reseau express metropolitain in Montreal. REM will provide rapid transit service 20 hours a day on one of the world’s largest driverless train systems. Alstom supplied a complete driverless automatic light metro system, including rolling stock, signaling and depot equipment. Groupe PMM will oversee the operation and maintenance of the new 42-mile network, metro fleet and all its subsystems for 30 years through GPMMOM, a joint venture created by Alstom and SNC-Lavalin, according to an Alstom press release.

CDM Smith Inc. has obtained a nearly $5 million contract from the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority to advance accessibility improvements at three trolley stations located on 22nd, 33rd and 36th streets. When CDM’s work is completed, SEPTA will begin the construction phase. The work is part of SEPTA’s trolley modernization and accessibility projects on the Broad Street Line and Market-Frankford Line, which will mean 99% of subway and trolley trips will travel through accessible stations by 2035.
