Wabtec Corp. today announced it will provide brakes and couplers for 640 MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) train cars via its client Kawasaki Rail Car Inc. The multimillion-dollar order will result in seamless interoperability with other subway fleets in the NYCT, according to a Wabtec press release. The order follows one of Wabtec's largest North American transit projects in 2018, which provided equipment for 535 cars. This latest order includes an option for 640 cars, and a second option for up to 437 cars, Wabtec officials said. Kawasaki will manufacture its R211 subway cars at its facilities in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Yonkers, New York. The new cars for the first option are scheduled to be delivered in 2025 through 2026.

Steel Dynamics Inc. recently announced leadership promotions for Christopher Graham, Richard Poinsatte, Angela Reeve, Christopher Gionti and Daniel Keown. Graham will assume responsibility and oversight for the company's flat-roll steel group. Poinsatte has been named senior vice president and treasurer of finance, business development and risk; Reeve, VP of human resources; Gionti, VP and general manager of the structural and rail steel division; and Keown, VP and GM of the Columbus flat-roll steel division.
