American Industrial Transport Inc. (AITX), an affiliate of ITE Management LP, has agreed to acquire SMBC Rail Services from SMBC Americas Holdings Inc. The transaction will add more than 50,000 rail cars to AITX’s fleet, along with an experienced team and long-standing customer relationships to create, in AITX, one of the leading full-service rail-car platforms in North America, ITE officials said in a press release. The team, rail-car assets and operating systems will be integrated into the AITX full-service rail-car platform.

Tideworks Technology® Inc. (Tideworks), a provider of terminal operating system (TOS) solutions, announced BNSF Railway Co. is now using Tideworks Intermodal Pro® intermodal TOS and Traffic Control equipment dispatch system at its Memphis facility. Intermodal Pro and Traffic Control will provide BNSF centralized visibility of its terminal operations to optimize real-time planning, improve terminal and equipment productivity and boost performance, according to a Tideworks press release.

The Railway Engineering-Maintenance Suppliers Association (REMSA) announced the availability of two awards to students interested in rail industry careers. The Railway Engineering Education Scholarship will award up to $10,000 to junior or senior undergraduates or students in graduate school, trade schools or other continuing education programs who want to work in the rail construction and maintenance. The second award will help send a student attend the InnoTrans conference to be held Sept. 24-27, 2024, in Berlin. Applications for both awards are due Nov. 28.
