Wabtec Corp. has entered into the rail-car telematics market via an agreement with Intermodal Telematics B.V. (IMT), a Dutch company. Under the agreement, Wabtec will create a rail-car telematics platform using IMT technology. The new platform will deliver real-time information to rail-car and tank container owners and operators. Wabtec plans to begin offering the telematics solution in first-quarter 2024. The solution will be offered exclusively by Wabtec in North America and other heavy-haul freight markets globally, according to a Wabtec press release.

American Industrial Transport Inc. (AITX) has completed its acquisition of certain rail-car assets and operations formerly owned by SMBC Rail Services LLC. With the acquisition, AITX adds a diversified fleet of more than 50,000 rail cars and welcomes new customers and members to its expert rail industry team, AITX officials said in a press release. Michael McCarthy is named AITX president. He spent the past 10 years building SMBC RS, running its commercial leasing and portfolio management business. Also, Texas Howard has been named chief operating officer. He will oversee all U.S. and European fleet and repair operations, engineering, quality assurance, environmental health and safety and human resources.

FlexRail, a rail-logistics solutions provider, has renewed its lease of 800 feet of railway track from the Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis (TRRA). "We are excited to introduce FlexRail's specialized services to the St. Louis Region Freightway," said Ron Lord, FlexRail’s vice president of business development in a press release. "Our partnership with TRRA is a testament to our joint commitment to building a dynamic and responsive transportation network that meets the evolving needs of businesses locally and nationwide."
