J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. has elected former Kansas City Southern President and CEO Patrick Ottensmeyer to its board, expanding the board to 10 seats, according to a news release. Ottensmeyer led KCS from 2015 until April 2023, when the Class I merged with Canadian Pacific. From 2008 to 2015, he was KCS' executive vice president of sales and marketing, and from 2006 to 2008, he was the railroad's EVP and chief financial officer.

Skanska has been awarded a contract from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to replace 21 existing escalators throughout New York City. The $146 million design-build project is also designed to improve associated back-of-house rooms and escalator machine rooms with upgraded equipment, adhering to applicable code requirements and operational needs. Construction is expected to begin this month and reach final completion in February 2027.

Duos Technologies Inc. inked a three-year subscription-based agreement with a Class I to implement AI-based defect-detection models into day-to-day operations and provide preventative site maintenance programs for the railroad’s rail-car inspection portals. Duos has been implementing inspection and AI technologies at Class Is for more than 13 years based on this approach, according to a Duos news release.
