Road & Rail Services LLC recently named Tim Kizer vice president of supply-chain solutions. In his new role, he will be responsible for leveraging existing service lines with new industrial customers, developing business in new and existing industrial markets, identifying projects that create supply chain improvements for industrial customers, leading project discovery and development, and evaluating potential new business opportunities. Most recently, Kizer served as executive VP at Louisville Riverport Authority and the LRA Railroad.

The Greenbrier Cos. Inc. reported net earnings of $34 million, or $1.06 per diluted share, on revenue of $820 million in its third quarter ending May 31. During the quarter, the company logged new rail-car orders for 6,300 units valued at $830 million and delivered 5,400 units, resulting in new rail-car backlog of 29,400 units with an estimated value of $3.7 billion, according to a Greenbrier press release.

Alstom has signed a framework agreement with Hamburger Hochbahn AG in Germany worth up to 2.8 billion euros. The contract covers the delivery of up to 374 new metro trains, for fully and semi-automated operation. Alstom also will equip the 16-mile long and fully automated new metro line U5 in Hamburg with the communications-based train-control system Urbalis.
