Rail News: Railroading Supplier Spotlight
The American Chemistry Council (ACC) recently accepted GATX Rail as a Responsible Care® Partnership Program participant.
In 1988, the U.S. chemical industry — through the ACC — adopted the program, a voluntary initiative aimed at improving the industry's environmental, health, safety and security performance. As a Responsible Care partner, GATX Rail will be required to continue managing operations consistent with the program's guiding principles, including a high priority on protecting the environment, public and employees.
"Through our Operational Excellence program, we have long focused on maintaining the highest standards regarding environmental, health, safety and security, and we are committed to the safety of the communities in which we operate," said GATX Rail President David Edwards in a prepared statement. "Our participation demonstrates our long-term commitment to the chemical industry and aligns us with our key customers' Responsible Care initiatives."
GATX Rail leases a fleet 107,000 rail cars — about 60 percent of which are tank cars — to more than 900 North American customers. About 36 percent of the company's leasing revenue is generated by chemical shippers.
