BART awards contract for SFO employee discount cards (7/21/03)

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) recently awarded a contract to On Track Innovations Ltd. (OTI) to provide ISO 14443-compliant contactless smart-card technology for the agency’s SFO Airline Employee Discount Program.

San Francisco International Airport employees who ride BART trains to work will receive a contactless microprocessor-based smart card encrypted to activate a discounted fare structure when used at the SFO station.

BART uses a graduated fare structure determined by trip length. Passengers insert a magnetic strip-based ticket in fare gates when entering and exiting the system.
