The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) has recognized Vancer as the 2021 Veterans Engagement Award winner for efforts to recruit and retain veterans, and for supporting skill development for military veterans and their families.
Vancer’s commitment to identifying veterans in the community and creating a program that provides them support as they transition to civilian roles has led to a workforce where one in 10 of its employees is a veteran, ASLRRA officials said in a news release.
A maintenance-of-way equipment supplier, Vancer created a military liaisons program that involves a group of select employees with previous and recent military experience who demonstrate a positive attitude regarding the military and the ability to promote the company to enhance recruitment efforts. Liaisons act as a contact and guide for potential and new employees who are transitioning from active-duty military positions into roles with the company.
“Veterans bring a commitment to safety and mission, and valuable experience to the railroad industry. Our members have long recognized these attributes, and this award illustrates the many ways our members go above and beyond to recruit and retain this talent," said ASLRRA President Chuck Baker.
