Indian Railways recently awarded a contract to Alcatel Transport Automation Solutions to deliver more than 200 micro-processor-based single- and multiple-section axle counters. The axle counters will be installed on the Tughlakabad-Jhasi and Jhasi-Bina section of the Central Railways between Mumbai and Kolkata — one of India’s main rail corridors.

Alcatel will provide its Alcatel 6315 FieldTrac — designed evaluate 32 detection points simultaneously and monitor up to 32 sections — and Alcatel 6316 FieldTrac, which evaluates three detection points and monitor one section.

Both axle counters are based on digital transmission and are designed to ensure reliable train presence detection regardless of track state and section length, according to a prepared statement.

The axle counters will be manufactured by Alcatel’s Germany plant and installed by India’s Eldyne Group.
