Alstom today announced that it signed a purchase agreement to acquire Nomad Digital, a provider of on-board connectivity solutions.

Nomad's products include passenger Wi-Fi and information systems, as well as on-board passenger portals, entertainment and media platforms.

"This acquisition illustrates our strategy to offer more and more tailor-made solutions to our customers," said Pascal Clere, senior vice president for digital mobility at Alstom, in a press release. "We are very confident in the success of this new activity as Nomad Digital enables operators to significantly enhance the passenger experience. These new skills and technologies will enable us to accelerate the digitalization of our offering."

The transaction is expected to close in early January 2017. Financial details weren't disclosed.

Nomad will retain its brand and independent identify, and will operate as an Alstom wholly-owned subsidiary.
