April 3: Updates from Unitrac, EMCOR Group, Cubic Transportation, Progress Rail and STV

• Unitrac Railroad Materials Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Healey Railroad Corp., has obtained a $1.1 million contract to supply special trackwork to Amtrak. All the manufactured trackwork under the contract will be shipped to Amtrak over the next several months, Unitrac officials said in a prepared statement.

• EMCOR Group Inc. subsidiary Contra Costa Electric has obtained a contract from Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) to install electrical systems for two new transit stations and a new maintenance facility as part of the automated people-mover (APM) system between BART’s Coliseum/Oakland Airport Station to the Oakland International Airport in Oakland, Calif. Contra Costa Electric will build electrical facilities for the stations and manage all low-voltage construction, including the installation of station power, switchgear, lighting and special systems, such as those for fire alarms, security, communications, paging, public address and closed-circuit TVs.

• Cubic Transportation Systems Inc. announced the second phase of the open payment pilot program in which riders will be able to use a plastic contactless Visa, MasterCard or Discover card, or a virtual card in a mobile wallet, to make secure transit payments at Port Authority Transit Corp. (PATCO) gates and parking terminals. The PATCO pilot program is designed to speed riders through stations, as well as provide the agency technical information on the best practices for deploying and operating future contactless payment systems in other transit systems, Cubic officials said in a prepared statement.

• Progress Rail Services Corp. has named Tim Heilig senior vice president of customer solutions. He will work with Progress Rail and its subsidiary, Electro-Motive Diesel Inc. Heilig, who has extensive experience in the railroad industry, most recently was VP of Norfolk Southern Railway’s mechanical department, where he was responsible for maintenance operations. Heilig began his career at Southern Railway, an NS predecessor, in 1971.

• E. Richard Capps Jr. has been promoted to senior vice president of STV. He will continue in his role as regional manager for the Transportation & Infrastructure Division's Southeastern Region. Capps is responsible for overseeing the operations of the firm's Southeast region. A civil engineer and project manager with more than 20 years of experience in roadway design and construction, he has directed numerous highway projects.
