advertisement
Bombardier Transportation recently was awarded a $46.8 million contract to build 12 low-floor trams for Leipzig, Germany’s transit agency. The contract includes an option for 12 more vehicles.
The trams will feature a modular low-floor design, flat screens to display travel information, air conditioning and security cameras. The 187-passenger capacity cars are designed to operate on high-density lines with low noise levels, according to a prepared statement.
The cars will be built at Bombardier’s Bautzen, Germany, facility; the propulsion systems, at the company's Mannheim, Germany, plant.
Bombardier expects to deliver the cars between August 2005 and May 2006.
