Rail News: Railroading Supplier Spotlight
Ferrocarril Mexicano S.A. de C.V. (Ferromex) recently deployed Railcar Management Inc.'s (RMI) RailConnect Revenue Management Services (RMS), enabling the railroad to participate in the North American Interline Settlement System (ISS).
An industry-standard process certified by the Association of American Railroads, ISS enables North America railroads to process interline freight electronically by providing Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) management, multiple security levels, industry reference files and revenue protection.
Ferromex plans to use Web-based RMS to settle freight charges with U.S. and Canadian railroads for northbound and southbound shipments.
"ISS provides important efficiency improvements over the old process of re-billing all shipments at the border," said Manuel Alonso, Ferromex vice president of commercial planning and tariffs, in a prepared statement. "We are continuing to work closely with RMI to develop custom interfaces with our internal SAP systems in order to ensure that we were using the correct rates and billing our customers properly."
Designed as a turnkey solution for ISS processing, RMS features automatic rate and division calculation, freight billing, EDI communication with ISS' central system, trial balance and cash management. Seventy railroads now use RMS to participate in the ISS process, said Gary Griswell, RMI assistant vice president of sales.
