Greenbrier logs orders for 5,500 rail cars

The Greenbrier Cos. Inc. has received new orders for 5,500 rail cars, valued at more than $530 million, during the fourth fiscal quarter that began June 1.
The orders increase Greenbrier's backlog and “provide further visibility entering fiscal 2022,” company officials said in a press release.
The orders are from a diverse mix of customers and comprise a broad range of rail-car types, including intermodal, box and tank cars, covered hoppers and gondolas.
"Greenbrier continues to see momentum in our markets as we navigate the economic recovery and COVID variants," said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer William Furman. "Our commercial and leasing teams have performed exceptionally in this environment."
The company expects this order trend to continue into fiscal-year 2022, he added.
