• RailComm has installed a wireless remote-control derail system at Amtrak’s maintenance facility near Miami. Two customized local control panels, located in the maintenance building, provide wireless remote control to the derails, according to a company press release. The panels include a keypad for advanced security and logging. All control panel operations are recorded and stored on a wirelessly linked PC workstation. The workstation enables supervisors, managers and other authorized personnel to review the operation logs and manage the system security.

• Gannett Fleming has announced several appointments. Barry Lemke recently joined Gannett Fleming Transit & Rail Systems as a senior signal designer. He is responsible for performing and leading train control and highway at rail-grade-crossing design and coordination throughout the western United States. Kevin Cronin was named senior project director within the transit and rail practice, and he supports the firm’s engineering efforts for the Maryland Transit Administration’s Purple Line program. Meanwhile, John Lech and John Samean have been named senior associates at Transit & Rail Systems. Lech serves as a manager of intercity and commuter railroad signal design, while Samean, as manager of signal design, is responsible for project management, technical reviews, quality assurance and quality control reviews, studies, detail design, cost estimates and specifications.
