• Charles “Steve” McCarty has been named general manager of Veolia Rail’s Tri-Rail operation in Florida. McCarty has 39 years of railroad safety and operations experience, including a stint at Amtrak. Most recently, he was a bureau chief at the Illinois Department of Transportation, where he managed the Chicago Region Environmental and Transportation Efficiency (CREATE) program and freight-rail programs. McCarty began his career as a locomotive engineer and worked his way up to various managerial positions, including in passenger/corridor operations.

• Skanska Koch has obtained a $10 million contract from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to install more than 175 steel ribs along the north-south concourse of the new World Trade Center Transportation hub and to complete work at the West Street concourse, according to a Skanska press release. The West concourse will lead commuters from nearby mass transit services to One World Trade Center and the World Financial Center, as well as to a Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) hall in New Jersey. The north-south concourse will connect commuters throughout the World Trade Center hub. Skanska Koch also is fabricating and erecting the steel structure for the Calatrava Oculus building, which will serve as the hub’s main access point to PATH.

• Bridge engineering firm Modjeski and Masters has named David Petermeier vice president. In his new role, Petermeier will guide the firm’s strategy and oversee the Mid-America regional operations. With more than 20 years of bridge design experience, he has been responsible for inspection, analysis, load capacity rating, design and rehabilitation of highway and railroad structures of various sizes and complexity, according to a press release.

• RMI has been selected as a 2012 “Top 100 Logistics Technology Company” by Inbound Logistics magazine for the seventh consecutive year, according to a company press release. Each year, the magazine recognizes 100 logistics IT companies that support and enable excellence in logistics.

• TÜV Rheinland has named Gerhard Luebken chief regional officer, president and chief executive officer of TUV Rheinland North America Holding Inc. and of TUV Rheinland of North Inc. In his new role, he will head the management team in North America and oversee operational, financial and administrative functions, according to a company press release. Most recently, Luebken served as vice president of greater China at TÜV Rheinland, where he managed the Shanghai operations with 800 employees.

• On April 26, the National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association Inc. (NRC) raised $500,000 in auctioned equipment at its Annual Railroad Construction and Maintenance Equipment Auction, which was held at the RailWorks/E&L Paving and Construction facility in La Porte, Ind. More than 200 pieces of rail construction equipment was sold at the event. Along with consignments from dozens of contractors, suppliers and railroads, this year’s equipment donations came from Balfour Beatty Rail, Delta Railroad Construction and Nordco. Proceeds from the donations will go to the NRC Safety and Education Training Program.
