New Jersey Transit recently renewed a contract with business process outsourcing and information technology provider Affiliated Computer Services Inc. (ACS) to provide fare-collection system maintenance services and new equipment. The five-year, $76 million contract includes seven one-year options totaling $112 million.

Under the contract, ACS will upgrade NJ Transit’s fare-collection system to improve electronics and install 15-inch touch screens. ACS also will provide 157 new ticket vending machines that will be delivered between 2007 and 2008.

The machines will be compatible with all smart-card technologies and issue tickets for transit agencies in New York and Pennsylvania.
