The National Railroad Construction & Maintenance Association's (NRC) 14th annual auction held April 6 raised $58,403 for safety education and training.Held at the Railroad Construction Co. of South Jersey/Railroad Constructors facility in Paulsboro, N.J., the auction sold 250 pieces of equipment for $1.25 million to on-site and online bidders, according to an NRC press release.The association's Safety and Education Training Program receives 3 percent of the value of all consignments from contractors, suppliers, and railroads, and 100 percent of proceeds from items donated to the auction. This year, Balfour Beatty Rail, Delta Railroad Construction Inc. and Encore Rail Systems Inc. donated equipment.The Safety and Education Training Program enables NRC to strengthen its efforts to ensure rail-industry safety, hold the Contractor Safety Award contest and produce safety material, such as Pocket Safety Manuals, Tool Box Talks and the NRC safety video series.
